Call for contributions ‘Climate and Creation: Theological Responses to the Anthropocene’ (Clive Pearson)

Call for contributions to a special issue of Religions edited by Prof Clive Pearson:

Climate and Creation: Theological Responses to the Anthropocene

Message from the Guest Editor

This Special Issue will explore the doctrine of creation through the lens of the Anthropocene. The term Anthropocene has not been endorsed as an official designation of a geological epoch; nevertheless, it is widely used in Earth System sciences and social sciences/humanities. This edition assumes that the term refers to the impact of the human species on the planet. This edition builds upon theological research already conducted on the Anthropocene and revisits the doctrine of creation in the light of questions regarding ‘where is God’ posed by related topics concerning providence and theodicy, in the aftermath of the decision by the International Union of Geological Sciences not to proceed. Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas include the usefulness of the term Anthropocene; how the doctrine of creation is affected by the understanding of the human impact upon the planet; whether humanity has become a ‘force of nature’; and what other religious traditions, especially Judaism and Islam, might contribute to this discussion. We look forward to receiving your contributions.
